Meet Nahomy!

El Tejar is a small town perched high in the mountains of Guatemala. It is home to Nahomy and her family. Nahomy’s parents worked hard to give their children an education and a better future. She and her siblings attended the local school for a few years, but the family could not afford for them to continue their education.

That changed when Nahomy was twelve. She learned about the Luminarias program and, with her parents’ support, applied and was accepted. At Luminarias, Nahomy discovered new interests and built confidence. She developed a love of music, art, and English. She represented Luminarias in debate competitions and earned first place. She also took full advantage of the program’s workshops, embracing each opportunity with enthusiasm.

Nahomy has big dreams for her future. “I want to become a lawyer, businesswoman, or economist, because I want to be part of real change in my country and leave a mark beyond Guatemala as well,” she says. Now, those goals are within reach. Nahomy graduated from high school in November 2025 and will spend this year studying English to strengthen her language skills.

Throughout her time at Luminarias, Nahomy has drawn strength from her family’s perseverance and love. Their steady support, combined with her own dedication, has opened doors that once felt out of reach. Now, Nahomy is stepping into a new chapter, determined to use her education to help shape Guatemala’s future.
