Meet Angelina!

San Juan Sacatepéquez is surrounded by lush mountains and valleys and is known for its beautiful flowers. It is home to Angelina, her parents, José and María Angela, and eleven siblings.

As the youngest, Angelina had an opportunity none of her older siblings had: the chance to start school. She quickly fell in love with learning, but completing her education would cost more than her family could afford.

José first heard about Luminarias from a neighbor and immediately thought of Angelina. With her father’s encouragement, Angelina applied and was accepted!

Now a high school student, Angelina is growing in confidence. She says, “Luminarias means a lot to me, as it has helped me in all areas of my life. It has given me great opportunities…without it, I could not have continued my education.”

Angelina is committed to graduating with excellent grades and dreams of attending university to become a lawyer. Today, Angelina is a symbol of hope and pride for her family. Her perseverance inspires girls in her community to dream of a brighter future.
